Uganda Full Year 2018: Toyota Hilux and Land Cruiser dominate, 5 pickups in Top 7 in market up 9.7%
Toyota Land Cruiser sales surge 57.6% to #2 in Uganda this year.
New vehicle sales in Uganda soar 9.7% year-on-year in 2018 to 2.594 units after two consecutive years of decline. Pickups account for 42.4% of the market and SUVs for 28.6%. The Top 3 best-selling brands majestically post clear double-digit gains: Toyota (+20.4%) improving its share to 39.5% above Tata (+39.1%) thanks to its trucks and Isuzu (+42.6%). In contrast, Nissan (-43.5%) drops 3 spots to #5 and Mercedes (-44.2%) is down two to #9. Suzuki (+140%) for its part breaks into the Top 10 at #8.
Over in the models ranking, the Toyota Hilux (-4.5%) remains comfortably in the lead despite its share dropping by 2.5 percentage points on 2017 to 17.1%. The Toyota Land Cruiser (+57.6%), Isuzu TFS aka D-Max (+44%) and Toyota Prado (+36.5%) all post fantastic gains and overtakes the Mitsubishi L200 (-14.3%) down 3 spots to #5. The Ford Ranger (+34.7%) is another nameplate to post excellent results in Uganda this year and alongside the Nissan Hardbody (-12.6%) make it no less than 5 pickups in the Top 7. The Toyota Fortuner (+176.9%) and Tata LP Minibus (+77.8%) both make remarkable entrances inside the Top 10. Strikingly, there are no passenger cars inside the Top 20, with the Toyota Corolla (-38.1%) the only one selling more than 10 units…
